जैसा कि आप जानते होंगे, D2D और D2M दो अलग चीज़ें हैं।
D2D = Direct-to-Device satellite connectivity — मोबाइल सीधे satellite से connect होगा।
D2M = Direct-to-Mobile broadcasting — मोबाइल पर TV/video/radio जैसी broadcast service बिना mobile internet के मिलेगी।
मेरी राय में पहले phase में यह DD/Prasar Bharati, education, emergency alerts और free live channels के लिए आएगा। और कोई बड़ी बात नहीं है कि यह DD Free Dish जैसा बड़ा mass-market platform बन सकता है।
D2M कैसे काम करता है?
D2M में mobile network tower की जगह broadcast transmitter signal भेजता है। आपका phone उस signal को receive करेगा, जैसे FM radio receive होता है, लेकिन इसमें video, audio, emergency alert, education content, firmware updates आदि भी आ सकते हैं। Tejas Networks के D2M solution में HD content delivery, emergency alerts, OTA software updates और edutainment content जैसे use-cases बताए गए हैं।
लेकिन दो बातें ध्यान रखें:
YouTube/website browsing जैसा full internet D2M से नहीं मिलेगा।
Interactive features, login, payment, comments, on-demand OTT आदि के लिए अलग से mobile internet/Wi-Fi की जरूरत पड़ सकती है।
यानी D2M का काम है: one-to-many broadcast — live TV, news, emergency alert, education, public information।
यह normal 4G/5G internet का full replacement नहीं है।
अभी आपके normal smartphone में D2M automatically नहीं चलेगा, जब तक उसमें D2M/ATSC 3.0/5G Broadcast compatible receiver chipset या external receiver support न हो।
Tejas Networks कहता है कि D2M off-the-shelf Android phones में proprietary SDR chip लगाकर, ATSC 3.0 TVs और अन्य devices पर चल सकता है।
2024–2025 में Saankhya Labs, Sinclair, Free Stream Technologies आदि ने India trials के लिए low-cost D2M consumer devices/phones बनाने की घोषणा की थी। कुछ reports में Lava और HMD जैसे phone makers के groundwork की बात भी आई है, और Tejas/Saankhya SL-3000 chipset का उल्लेख है।
मतलब अभी supported devices mass market में common नहीं हैं। Future में special D2M-enabled phones, feature phones, tablets, dongle/receiver या TV devices आ सकते हैं।
D2D कैसे काम करता है?
Satellite D2D global technology है। इसमें AST SpaceMobile, Starlink/SpaceX, Viasat, Iridium, Globalstar जैसी international companies काम कर रही हैं। India में भी D2D/NTN पर regulatory और technical discussion चल रहा है। अप्रैल 2026 में भारत सरकार के कार्यक्रम में AST SpaceMobile और Vodafone Idea जैसे experts ने D2D satellite/NTN ecosystem पर discussion किया।
Viasat और BSNL ने 2024 में India Mobile Congress में direct-to-device smartphone connectivity का demonstration किया था।
Satellite D2D में future में SMS, emergency messages, voice और limited data आ सकता है। Full high-speed internet direct phone-to-satellite पर अभी बहुत challenging है; इसके लिए spectrum, satellite capacity, phone antenna, battery और regulation जैसी समस्याएँ हैं।
मैं D2M और D2D को side-by-side compare कर रहा हूँ, ताकि फर्क साफ दिखे: कौन-सा broadcast है, कौन-सा satellite internet/SOS type, और भारत में कौन ज्यादा practical है।

D2M क्या है?
D2M यानी Direct-to-Mobile एक broadcast technology है। इसमें mobile tower की तरह हर user को अलग-अलग data नहीं भेजा जाता, बल्कि TV/FM radio की तरह एक signal broadcast होता है और लाखों phones उसे एक साथ receive कर सकते हैं।
इससे phone पर बिना mobile data के ये चीजें मिल सकती हैं:
- Live TV channels
- DD/Prasar Bharati channels
- News
- Education content
- Emergency alerts
- Government information
- Sports/live events
इसे आप आसान भाषा में mobile के लिए DD Free Dish जैसा system समझ सकते हैं। फर्क इतना है कि dish antenna की जगह phone में receiver/chip लगेगा।
D2D क्या है?
D2D यानी Direct-to-Device Satellite में mobile phone सीधे satellite से connect होता है। इसका फायदा वहाँ होगा जहाँ mobile tower नहीं हैं।
जैसे:
- जंगल
- पहाड़ी इलाका
- समुद्र
- border area
- गाँव जहाँ network कमजोर है
- disaster zone, जैसे बाढ़, भूकंप, cyclone
D2D में future में SMS, emergency message, voice call और limited internet मिल सकते हैं। लेकिन शुरुआत में यह normal 4G/5G जैसा fast internet नहीं देगा।
Internet के मामले में फर्क –
D2M internet का replacement नहीं है।
इससे आप YouTube search, WhatsApp, website browsing, online payment या social media नहीं चला पाएंगे। यह mainly broadcast के लिए है — जैसे TV, news, live event, alert, education।
D2D internet backup जैसा हो सकता है।
जब tower नहीं होगा, तब phone satellite से connect होकर message, SOS, limited voice या limited data भेज सकता है। Future में satellite broadband direct phone पर आ सकता है, लेकिन इसमें अभी बहुत challenges हैं।
कौन-से phones support करेंगे?
अभी normal smartphones में D2M या full D2D automatically नहीं चलेगा।
D2M के लिए –
Phone में D2M/ATSC 3.0/5G Broadcast receiver chip चाहिए होगी। Future में Lava, HMD या दूसरे budget phone makers ऐसे phone ला सकते हैं।
D2D के लिए –
Phone में satellite connectivity support होना चाहिए। साथ ही telecom operator और satellite company की service भी active होनी चाहिए। कुछ premium phones में global market में emergency satellite messaging features हैं, लेकिन India में यह regulation और operator approval पर depend करेगा।
भारत में कौन जल्दी सफल हो सकता है?
मेरे हिसाब से D2M India में जल्दी successful हो सकता है, क्योंकि इसका use-case clear है, D2D भी बहुत important है, लेकिन यह ज्यादा costly और complex technology है। इसमें satellite, spectrum, phone hardware, battery, network approval और operator partnership जैसी बहुत चीजें जुड़ी हैं।
कौन-सी technology किसके लिए बेहतर है?
D2M बेहतर है अगर आपको चाहिए:
- Free TV
- DD Free Dish जैसा mobile TV
- News
- Education
- Emergency alerts
- Live sports/events
- Internet के बिना broadcast content
D2D बेहतर है अगर आपको चाहिए:
- No-network area में connectivity
- Emergency SOS
- Remote area communication
- Border/sea/mountain connectivity
- Satellite backup network
- Limited internet जहाँ tower नहीं है
सरल तरीके से समझे तो –
D2M = mobile पर TV/radio/news बिना internet
D2D = mobile को satellite से connect करना जब tower न हो
भारत के लिए दोनों technologies important हैं, लेकिन दोनों का काम अलग है। अगर बात DD Free Dish, free channels, live TV और public broadcasting की है, तो D2M ज्यादा useful है। अगर बात jungle, mountain, sea या disaster area में mobile connectivity की है, तो D2D ज्यादा useful है।
सबसे आसान उदाहरण:
D2M आपके phone को छोटा TV बना देगा।
D2D आपके phone को satellite phone जैसा बना देगा।
